Can I Run MicroBase Professional Under Mac OS X?

Yes, you likely can. MicroBase Professional is a conventional Win32 program which can be run under Mac OS X/macOS by utilizing a Windows VM Manager. There are a number of VM Managers available for this purpose such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, VMWare, Boot Camp, and so on.

DSS has also tested MicroBase Professional in a Windows Virtual Machine via VirtualBox v5.1 under macOS High Sierra. Several of the configurations we have tested are:

  • MacOS High Sierra v10.13 - Windows XP SP3
  • MacOS High Sierra v10.13 - Windows Vista SP2
  • MacOS High Sierra v10.13 - Windows 7 SP1
  • MacOS High Sierra v10.13 - Windows 8.1
  • MacOS High Sierra v10.13 - Windows 10

DSS has also tested MicroBase Professional in a Windows Virtual Machine via VirtualBox v5.1 under macOS Sierra. Several of the configurations we have tested are:

  • MacOS Sierra v10.12 - Windows XP SP3

  What Do I Need To Run MicroBase Professional In This Way?

You will need the following items:

  • Mac PC with Mac OS X or macOS installed and an available USB Port.
  • VM Manager such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.
  • Microsoft Windows (WinXP, Win7 or Win10 recommended).
  • MicroBase Professional v2.20 or higher.

  How Do I Set Up My Mac To Do This?

The very basic steps to set up your Mac machine to run MicroBase Professional are:

  • Start your computer running Mac OS X or macOS.
  • Install the VM Manager of your choice.
  • Create a new Virtual Machine for use with your version of Windows.
  • Install Windows in the Virtual Machine.
  • Start your new Virtual Machine. Verify Windows is activated and operating properly.
  • Install MicroBase Professional in Windows as described here.
  • Configure the Virtual Machine to allow Windows access to necessary computer peripherals:
    • USB-RS232 Adapter or RS232 COM Port (needed for MicroVib II communication).
    • System Printer (needed to print reports).
